Is the coffe table made out of awareness? - Francis Answers - 175

Question: I can see that I am awareness and understand that all things come and go within this awareness but sometimes "things" seem so solid. For example there is a coffe table nearby which looks solid and it is quite heavy, so is the coffe table made out of awareness? How can awareness seem so solid and heavy? Also, is this computer made out of awareness? Or is it just appearance in this worldly dream? Thanks for your time. Cliff
Yes, dear Cliff, this computer is also made of the same reality, which is the substance of both tangible and intangible objects. As the substance of intangible feelings, thoughts and sensations, we see it as awareness. However, we fail to see awareness as the substance of tangible objects because we erroneously superimpose tangibility onto their substance, in the same way as we superimpose a thought-like quality onto awareness. When we become aware of both of these inadvertent superimpositions, they cease and we become fully open to the possibility for the reality of our thoughts, awareness, to be also the reality of the table. You see, when you say "How can awareness seem so solid and heavy?" you unknowingly superimpose the solidity and heaviness of the table onto awareness. But the same awareness which is aware of the heavy table is also aware of the light feather, of the weightless thought. Does that make it light, or weightless? Is it not true that in and by itself it has none of these qualities, which makes possible their perception, just as the absence of color of a mirror makes possible the reflection of all the various colors of the objects placed in front of it?
